“Who can join?”
Everyone and anyone who cares about children! This includes moms, dads, teachers, principals, support staff, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors, businesses, and members of the community. Absolutely anyone! This year students can join as well!
“How do I join?”
Complete a Membership Enrollment Form and return it to school, along with the $5.00 membership fee (checks should be made payable to W.C. Abney PTA). Your membership card will be sent home with your child.
“Does the $5.00 cover both parents?”
No, it covers only one membership. It is a National PTA requirement that membership cards cannot be issued in more than one name. But remember, you are not just joining W.C. Abney’s PTA, you are joining both Georgia PTA and National PTA. When you join our PTA, $1.50 goes to State, $2.25 goes to National, and $1.25 stays here to support our local PTA programs.
“Do I have to join each year?”
Yes, membership cards are for an annual membership and will remain valid until June 30 of the year indicated on the card.
“Do I have to do volunteer work?”
No, PTA appreciates everyone’s membership, whether or not you volunteer, because each member increases PTA’s ability to advocate for children. However, you are more than welcome to volunteer in any area that interests you, as much as you like.
“Do I have to join separately for each of my children attending W.C. Abney?”
No, your membership will be included in each of your children’s classes.
“Do I have to attend meetings?”
Attending meetings is not a requirement of PTA membership. However, we do encourage members to attend PTA meetings so they are informed and so they can participate in the business of our association.
