Students whose parents take an active role in their learning have an undeniable advantage. Thirty-five years of research and more than 100 years of practice prove beyond a doubt that parent involvement increases student success. One way for parents to stay informed and to keep up-to-date with events at W.C. Abney is by attending PTA membership meetings. Each of our three membership meetings begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. and is held in the gymnasium.

Our meetings are structured to be informative and to provide parents with a picture of what our children are doing at school. Not only do they provide face-to-face contact between members, but the meetings also give focused energy to a specific topic, issue, or project. At every meeting, we provide parents with a printed copy of: the agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, and a treasurer’s report. This saves time at the meeting (because we would otherwise have to spend valuable meeting time reading the minutes and treasurer’s report aloud) and it also provides our members with a permanent copy of this important information. We get the students involved in our meetings by having them present a meaningful program.
